Cookie Time

By Ella Kennen -

Sadie bounded up the stairs with one thing in mind.

“Cookie time,” she announced.

Cody pulled the covers over his head. “Uh-uh.”

“Uh-huh,” replied Sadie. “Cody, you promised.”

“Yes, yes,” came the muffled response from under the blankets. “At 3.”

“But Cody,” replied Sadie. “It is 3.”

“Impossible,” huffed Cody. “I just started reading.”

“No, really. Check the time.”

Cody poked an eye out. The big red letters on the clock read 3:00.

“Already?” complained Cody. “How did that happen?” He tossed the
blanket aside. “I guess it is cookie time.”

“Yay!” Sadie said. She dragged Cody down the stairs.

As Cody listed the ingredients, Sadie dashed around the kitchen grabbing them.

“Now,” Cody proclaimed, “we are ready to bake.”

“Can I please pour the flour?” begged Sadie. “Puh-lease?”

Cody bit his lip. “Okay, but be careful.”

Sadie nodded. “I will.”

Sadie put the measuring cup on the counter, then grabbed the bag of flour. Slowly, slowly she tipped the bag. Nothing came out. She tipped the bag a little more. Still noting. And more. Suddenly, there was flour on the counter, flour on the flour, even flour on Sadie’s nose.

“Oops,” she said in a tiny voice. “Sorry.”

Cody sighed as he pulled out the broom. “I’m putting in the eggs.”

He opened up the carton.

“Oh, no,” he said.

“What’s wrong?” asked Sadie.
